The AA-12 Combat Shotgun

For those times when a regular combat shotgun isn't generating enough flying body parts, gun connoisseurs turn to what must be the most outrageously devastating hand-held anti-personnel murder machine in existence: the Atchisson Assault Shotgun, or AA-12.

Assault rifles are all well and good, but when you really need to tear a person to pieces, nothing fills the air with metal quite like a AA-12 combat shotgun.

Damn, I want one of these guns. You know, just for the casual stroll in the park or the next time I want to completely destroy something- like an old car. Take my old vehicle, for instance. That damn thing needs to be put out of it's misery. While firing away with this baby, I'd be giggling like a little kid in a candy store. What fun! Of course, my inability to control the damned thing would probably shut me down, permanently, in the first couple of seconds. No, in truth, I'd be afraid to fire it but it is kinda fun to fantasize about.

I first saw and heard about this insane weapon in that testosterone-fueled movie, The Expendables. I couldn't believe the gun was real and when I came home from the movie theater that night, I looked up information on this military shotgun from hell.

I later watched a documentary on this gun and yes, it can do just what it looks like it can do in The Expendables. The AA-12's power is truly remarkable.

Here's a video clip featuring choice scenes of the AA-12 in action in the film, The Expendables. It looks like good fun had by all. :)

More info on the AA-12:

The Auto Assault-12 (AA-12), originally designed and known as the Atchisson Assault Shotgun, is a shotgun developed in 1972 by Maxwell Atchisson. The fully operational prototype was built in a garage shop by Richard Taylor. The current 2005 version has been developed over 18 years since the patent was sold to Military Police Systems, Inc. The original design was the basis of several later weapons, including the USAS-12 combat shotgun. The weapon is selective fire, operating as a semi-automatic, or in fully automatic mode at 300 rounds per minute. It is fed from either an 8-shell box magazine, or a 20- or 32-shell drum magazine.

Straight from the hot desk of Sir Tom Eagerly:
We officers never knew much about the weapopns that 'the men' had to get by with. We just pointed out where they had to stand in order to shoot and get shot at.
As the ad used to go:
"Join the Army.
See the world.
Meet interesting people.
Shoot them."
Onwards and upwards!

guns are fun sure... i've fired a few in my time including an SA80 quite a lot and several handguns. with the pistols i actually liked the .22 more than the higher caliber ones. a .22 is still a dangerous weapon but it feels more like a toy when it goes off - it's not as dramatic, i like that.
if i wanted to kill someone i wouldn't use a gun though - far too impersonal ;)

That is some serious firepower! looks great fun lol

The Harvester- Yeah, apparently they can make a guy's head explode like a watermelon. :)

Sir Tom- You were an officer in the Army? So where did you see action? That's a really nice advertisement, btw. Really brings people together. :)

ResCogitans- Wow. You've had a helluva lot more experience with guns than I have. Pretty impressive what you used. To date, I've only fired off a .22 and a .44 magnum. Just after graduating high school, I fired off an AK 47 in Air Force basic training in 1982. But it's been a long time since I used any guns. And my wife's afraid of me having one in the house. Personally, if I wanted to kill someone, I'd use any means necessary. If I'm in the right mindset and I've been provoked enough, I would have no trouble doing it. I have a very coldblooded side to me that I try to keep at bay. Hmmm... Maybe I've said too much. :) Take care, friend.

Lost.in.Idaho- Can you imagine finding one of these babies underneath the Christmas tree? I tell ya what... Nothin' says Christmas spirit more than a big fuckin' weapon that could obliterate dozens of unfriendlies in mere seconds. Ho ho ho!

Sir Tom replies:
One has lived a life of priviledge and debauchery, Kelly. Stand to attention when I'm speaking to you!

Blimey, I thought 'one' had to kneel before Sir Tom.
Anyway, another excellent post. You are doing really well keeping up the one-a-day posting rate at a high standard (so far!)

Fuck yeah I love that gun it gives me goosebumps and giddy like a school girl.....of course anything that can blow shit up and fire hot death makes me all mushy and misty eyed.

The closest I ever got to something like that was the M-203 40mm grenade launcher that used to be attached to my assault rifle. That was a kick ass accessory but it's only a single shot, plus it was awkward to aim especially if your a lefty like myself. And since one of the ammo types for the AA 12 are shot gun sized explosives this would pretty much make that weapon an antique.

Also another little fyi that gun was also featured on Predators but not to the same extent as the Expendables movie.

Thanks, Kelly. Now I wanna blow shit up.

Sir Tom- I've lived a life of debauchery in ye olden times, myself. Never one of privilege, though, gosh darn it. Oh... You were speaking of yourself? And yes Sir, Sir Tom, I'm standing to attention to you right at this moment, if you consider 'standing' turning my back to you, bending over and cutting a great big fart in your face. lol. Take care, Sir!

bazza- Thanks, Bazza! I think it's helped a lot that I had a whole slew of ideas written down ahead of time for these posts before I engaged in this challenge. I shudder to think what Sir Tom would want one to do while kneeling before him. :( Take care, friend.

The Wolf- Hahaha... Somehow that doesn't surprise me that you'd love that gun. Do ya think you could knock a few beer cans off a fence with this baby? Hell, what fence? Fence went bye-bye after you fired away with this mutha. lol.

That's interesting what you said about the grenade launcher. I figured, with your military training, that you've shot a variety of weapons. I'll have to check that one out on the internet. Maybe there's a video of that being used, too. No, I didn't know that the AA-12 was used in the Predators movie. I'll pay closer attention to that next time I watch that flick. Take care, man.

LilPixi- You're most welcome, LilPixi. Anytime I can inspire violence and/or destruction in folks, I figure I've done my good deed for the day. :)

300 rounds per minute?! Oh that's gotta be fun.

Kelly said...

Oh it is, Dixie. Especially when they are being used by crazed, fun-loving clowns at the circus. I mean... everyone knows for certain that all clowns are evil, after all... or so the stereotype goes.
