"Pepper" by The Butthole Surfers

Great song from The Butthole Surfers. Hypnotic. Psychedelic. Totally cool. And to me, the song is really about the different ways we perceive life and people around us. Enjoy.

  3. Hi Kelly,
'And you know never know how we seem through other peoples eyes.'
Life is indeed about perception and how we relate to our environment. In fact, what we do to make our environment a more positive place. One man's weed is another man's flower.
Great song. I've never heard of these guys before.
    Peace man, Gary :-)

  4. Great song. An oldie, but goodie.

I met Paul Leary (guitar player and one of the founding members) once. We were living in Austin around 2001, subletting an apartment from Matt "Insane in the Meshbane" Meshbane, an independent music promoter there.

It was early May, SXSW was starting up, and it was already hot as fuck in Texas. Even at NIGHT!!

Paul came around knocking on the door about two or three o'clock in the morning looking for Matt. So not knowing who it was at first I opened the door halfway and standing there on our dimly lit porch was some tall gawky doofus wearing glasses, and a dingy t-shirt with his beer belly half hangin' out...like it was no big deal.

After I got a good look at him I realized who he was. Seemed like a cool enough guy, but he woke us up....it was like TWO IN THE FUCKING MORNING!! Wouldn't stop asking me questions about everything under the sun. Asshole. =)

I had a kicking headache from the heat. If he wasn't Paul Leary, I would have punched him in the nads and gone back to sleep, without batting an eye. 'Cause that's how I roll.

  6. The Wolf: That's cool, man. I would like to see you doing that to this tune. Personally, I "use" this song to "do" the old lady. Hahaha. Good thing she never reads this blog. :-) Well, sort of. :-(

Me-Me: You're welcome. I knew you had good taste.

Gary: Glad ya like the song. And you're right... If each one of us did something to make our environment better, this world and it's inhabitants would be in peace and harmony instead of progressively becoming more chaotic, violent and polluted.

    Peace to you, friend

  7. Static: Agreed. Great song. And that's a hell of a good story you shared about meeting Paul Leary of "The Butthole Surfers". Impressive. That part about "...beer belly hangin' halfway out..." was funny. I have several questions but one really stands out in my mind. Why was he asking you so many questions? Was he fried? Drunk? All of the above? And did you answer "23" to everything he asked? Am I asking too many questions? LOL.

Also, I have to concur with The Wolf. He would have to suffer some abuse for waking me up at two in the morning, regardless of who he is. Perhaps a baseball bat to the side of his head. Hahaha.

The only celebrity I've ever seen in person, happened when I was 16. I saw Donny Most, the redheaded goof from the "Happy Days" sitcom. I saw him buying a hamburger in downtown Gatlinburg, Tennessee (Great Smokey Mountains). I screamed, "Hey everyone, it's Donny Most!" He quickly scrambled ran away, tripping over the tourists to get the hell away from there. I laughed. I enjoy doing something evil every so often, just to keep in shape. :-)

    Thanks for your story, Static
